It is a Category A historic monument, with a painted coffered ceiling and Kalotaszeg embroidery inside, right on the town's main square.
About the place
The church was built in the early 13th century, and the market town of Huedin grew up around it. The nave dates from the 14th century, the tower from the 15th, and the Gothic eastern part was added in 1483 by the Bánffy family. In 1661 the Tatars besieged the fortified church and set it on fire; it was rebuilt after 1693, and the Baroque porches at the entrances date from 1772.
Inside you can see the coffered ceiling painted by the Cluj master Lőrinc Umling after the earthquake of 1765, the 1874 organ by Kolonics István and a stone pulpit of 1751 brought here in 1969 from the village of Drag. Plaques on the walls recall the visits of the poet Petőfi Sándor and of Széchenyi István, and the churchyard holds memorials, among them to Kós Károly and Ravasz László.
