About the place
The church stands one street off the main road of Mănăstireni, about 18 km from Huedin. The village is named after a monastery of the Gyerő kindred, founded by tradition at the end of the 12th century. From the Romanesque church survive the nave, the west tower with twin windows decorated with carved dragons and a round window called the 'Wheel of Saint Catherine'. The defensive wall was rebuilt in 1734.
On the façade, next to the sundial, are two old reliefs: the Archangel Michael slaying the dragon and a 'bird-girl'. The coffered ceiling dates from 1748, the stone pulpit from 1752, and the pews and the communion table, painted in the 1750s, are attributed to Lőrinc Umling the Elder. It holds 4.6 on Google from 106 reviews.
